Having spent years as a single mother of two kids, I have experienced first hand the struggle many women when it comes to work, and how the need to focus on flexibility over time can impact earning power in a way that can never be regained. Being primary caregiver, the one who answers the sick calls from school, and the person who manages everything at work and across multiple homes is HARD. I am fortunate that I never had to worry about housing. But for many, that isn't the case. For example: - Women on average pay more for mortgages than men. - Women, particularly minority women, experience higher rates of subprime lending than men and tend to have weaker credit profiles, although their credit performances tend to be better than men.
